Why you need to switch to soy wax candles today

Are you a candle lover? Have you made the switch to soy wax? Here’s a list of reasons why you should choose soy wax candles instead of paraffin wax.

Soy Wax vs Paraffin Wax

Paraffin wax is the residue left over from the refining process of petroleum, coal and oil shale. Paraffin wax comes from a non-renewable resource.

While paraffin is cheaper and more readily accessible than soy wax, soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from the soy bean. Most of the world’s soy beans are grown in the United States where they are later hydrogenated and turned into soy wax.

The beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled and rolled into flakes. Soy oil is extracted for the hydrogenation process while the leftover by-product is used for animal feed. Nothing goes to waste. Soy is also a renewable resource.

Soy Wax is Better for your Health

Since paraffin is a by-product from the refining process, it includes probable carcinogens toluene and benzene, as well as other toxic chemicals including methyl ethyl ketone and naphthalene.

Soy wax comes from an all-natural, sustainably grown source. There are no harmful toxins in soy candles. Soy candles burn cleaner and have a lot less soot then paraffin wax. Soy wax reduces the air pollution produced by your candle and will not discolor your walls and ceilings in your home like paraffin wax candles are known to do.

Soy Wax Candles are Higher Quality

While soy wax candles are more expensive then paraffin wax candles, soy burns longer then paraffin. Bees wax candles are also another excellent choice for a high quality candle but tend to be even more expensive then soy wax candles.

Some science behind soy wax candles:

Soy has a lower burning temperature, which makes them safer to burn. You do not need as big of a wick to melt the wax.

Due to this lower burn temperature candles, scented soy candles work beautifully to fill your home with its scent. During the candle making process, the soy wax absorbs the fragrance oils, which is gradually released during the burning process. This is why you will continue to enjoy the fragrances down to the last inch of your candle.

Since soy wax is a softer wax, it also makes spills much easier to clean up should they occur.
